Philosophy of Education
Music class should always be a fun and inclusive experience for everyone who takes part. I have always loved music, and growing up, I discovered my love for working with young students. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the smile and satisfaction of a student who succeeds, from playing their first melody on the recorder to reading a difficult rhythm. The joy I feel when teaching music drives me to work hard and be the best music educator I can be.
I’ve seen first hand how happy music can make someone. No matter what I am going through, every time I sing and play ukulele, I can’t help but smile. One of my goals as a teacher is to provide the same emotional outlet and overall joy that music brought me when I needed it most.
By listening to the wants, needs, and ability levels of students, I hope to create a music class that students are excited to attend. It is important that every student feels heard; that they can come to my room and know that they will be noticed and appreciated that day. In order to create a productive learning environment, it is essential that students have respect for the teacher and their classmates, while also feeling respected themselves.
I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of students who all share one thing in common: if it was fun, they were willing to try. As an educator, I strive to make the classroom engaging and educational. I have noticed that by doing so, students retain information more quickly and thoroughly. By balancing these two aspects of teaching, I aspire to have a music class that is both fun and educationally rewarding for my students.
I strive to be a teacher that students feel comfortable around. I want to create a space where students are excited to participate and I aim to use creative pedagogical approaches to make my lessons fun and exciting.
